The Alston is a private membership restaurant in Chicago by Michelin Star Chef Jenner Tomaska & Fifty 50 Group.

I've created a bold vintage A monogram with keyhole inside that to emphasize the membership club aspect of the restaurant, completed the icon with customized typography that feels art deco and fits the amount of intricate details in the interior design. The A monogram is used at a large scale on leather menu covers as blind emboss, featuring a keyhole-shaped cutout window that reveals part of the menu inside. The color palette was derived from the floral wallpaper, while the ceiling moulding pattern was adapted as an embossed detail on the business cards, further tying the brand identity to the interior design.

For the private members club room, which has a red theme, I drew inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s use of red scripts that cannot be traditionally copied. I applied this concept by using red menu paper and a red leather menu cover to enhance the sense of exclusivity.

I also designed custom caviar tin labels featuring a sturgeon jumping through the keyhole of the A monogram, finished with gold foil to convey a premium feel. Additionally, I created custom vintage-style illustrations for the menu’s sauce section and the duck press to draw attention to these elements.
